Seven practices shortlisted for Hvidovre Hospital expansion in Copenhagen, Denmark

Hvidovre Hospital in Copenhagen has selected seven architecture teams for the design of an extension project at its busy centre. The 30,800 sq m expansion will incorporate an emergency department, maternity and children’s facilities, and cardiology department. The shortlisted teams will be required to submit their designs by May 2013 with a winner announced later next year. Due to be completed in 2018, the facility will aid the existing healthcare institution cope with its large influx of patients which currently stands at 40,000 admissions each year.

The seven shortlisted teams are as follows:

-HOK Ltd
-BDP Ltd
-Christensen og Co. arkitekter A/S
-C.F. Møller Danmark A/S
-Consortium consisting of Rambøll Danmark A/S, White arkitekter A/S, Danmark and White arkitekter AB, Sverige
-Consortium consisting of aarhus arkitekterne A/S and Schmidt hammer lassen architects K/S
-Consortium consisting of NIRAS A/S, Ratio Arkitekter A/S and Karlsson Arkitekter APS

Speaking on behalf of HOK’s London office, Director Andrew Barraclough, said: “This is an important project for the local community in Copenhagen and forms part of Denmark’s major investment in its healthcare infrastructure. The existing hospital, originally opened in 1979, is one of Denmark’s largest and this project involves the creation of a new masterplan to respond to the hospital’s vision of providing future expansion capability for new services, initially totalling over 30,000 sq m.”

Three shortlisted practices are signed up to WAN’s Business Information Service which issued the tender.
