Cook + Fox awarded as Green crusaders

New York School of Interior Design has selected Cook+Fox Architects to receive the Honor Roll of Green Design, an award intended to acknowledge individuals and businesses who have made outstanding contributions toward advancing the cause of sustainable design.

The award is part of a series of special events organized to celebrate the inauguration of Dr. Christopher Cyphers as the sixth president of NYSID, and reflects the inaugural theme “Educating a Green Generation.” The award will be presented on Friday, April 17, 2009, 5pm, immediately following the inauguration ceremony. The work of Cook+Fox will be digitally displayed during the reception at the Arthur King Satz Auditorium at the New York School of Interior Design, 170 East 70th Street, New York City.

Exploring concepts such as biomimicry and biophilia, Cook+Fox Architects' 50-person studio is pursuing design that goes beyond LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), to restore and regenerate the urban environment.

During the past few years, Cook+Fox has had an extremely positive and far ranging impact on the greening of the New York City urban environment through newly designed commercial and residential buildings, the green restoration of historic structures as well as sustainable commercial interiors. Their projects include: the Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, to be one of the greenest office buildings in the world and the first skyscraper designed to attain a LEED Platinum certification; the Lucida, the Upper East Side’s first LEED certified green residential building; and Historic Front Street, the restoration of an entire block of 18th-century buildings for residential and commercial use, located one block south of the Brooklyn Bridge. The latter was showcased in the National Building Museum’s “Green House” exhibit, and is the largest historic preservation project to incorporate green design as an integral part of its design, construction and operation.
