GUtech to host London's Architectural Association workshop in Muscat

It has recently been announced that the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) will host the world-famous Architectural Association from London (AA) for a two-week workshop on architectural design at GUtech this year. From September 4 - 15, architecture and design students will join the professionals to participate in the second AA Visiting School in Muscat 2012.

Students are to be given the opportunity to design a new pavilion for the GUtech campus in Halban, again working closely with professional architects, and the best designs will then enter the planning stage, then construction. The workshop will get the group to generate new architectural and urban solutions based on an investigation of patterns – used as a method to translate the performance or appearance of historical structures into new ideas. Their aim will be to apply these solutions to various scales, from facades and buildings to cities and regions.

“At the AA we have a tradition of building what we are talking about in real scale. Every year students design and build a pavilion in front of the AA premises in London. I am much looking forward to working on a similar pavilion project with students in Oman. Everyone from the design field is welcome — students and professionals,” said Omid Kamvari, Course Director of the AA visiting school in Muscat.
