Green light for Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Visitor Center in Washington DC

Plans submitted by the US National Park Service for the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Visitor Center have been officially approved by the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC). After amendments were made following a series of concerns raised by the NCPC in June 2009, the design now falls in line with the organisation’s Finding of No Significant Impact guidelines.

Located in Washington DC, the 5.2acre site for the new Vietnam Veterans Memorial Visitor Center would be on the Lincoln Memorial’s northern grounds but extend below ground level for a two storey space. Spread over approximately 37,000 sq ft, the complex would educate visitors on the Vietnam War and Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial as well as providing additional services through a bookstore, restrooms and central lobby space.
