Duke University in Durham, North Carolina has selected Grimshaw Architects to transform its West Union Building into a campus hub. The 81 year old Gothic Revival structure will get expanded dining facilities and improved spaces for social events and student organizations. Work is expected to begin in summer 2013.
Commenting on Grimshaw’s selection, Larry Moneta, vice president for student affairs at the school said: “I'm excited to be working with Grimshaw on the West Union project. I had the opportunity to talk with folks at the London School of Economics about their experiences with Grimshaw, and all I heard were rave reviews.
“I anticipate fantastic designs in concert with the planning already completed and some new and creative thinking about the dining and other components to be included in the renovation."
