Plans for new opera house and modern art museum in Dubai by Emaar Properties PJSC

Reports have surfaced of a major new cultural destination in Dubai, designed for the Government of the United Arab Emirates and funded by Emaar Properties PJSC (the financiers behind the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall). Destined to sit in the shade of the world’s tallest tower – the Burj Khalifa – the new Dubai Modern Art Museum and Opera House is allegedly still in the design stage and details of the architecture practice behind the scheme are yet to be released.

An estimated completion date has been tentatively set for January 2013. Arabian Business has quoted Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as stating: "The cultural accomplishments of a nation define its character and individuality. Having demonstrated our credentials in hosting world-class cultural events, UAE has established itself as a thriving destination for culture and the arts. We will continue to strengthen the infrastructure framework for promoting cultural initiatives, through projects such as the Dubai Modern Art Museum and Opera House District.”
