Today, the 6th October, is proclaimed by the UIA as World Day of Architecture 2008. Coming at a time when much of the profession is forced to re-strategise under a tense economic climate it seems appropriate to lift the spirits and celebrate the importance of architecture and emphasise the global synthesis that architecture creates. The theme for this year’s celebrations shares this nostalgia whilst encouraging a focus for the years ahead: ‘Child be the architect of a better future’. Dedicated to the UIA’s Vice President Giancarlo Lus who passed away in July, the theme is taken from the title of a song written by the architect.
Today will see the opening in Podernone, Italy.
