Architect and World Economic Forum “Global Leader of Tomorrow” Fernando Romero, Hon. FAIA, is one of today’s most relevant international architects. A graduate of Mexico’s Universidad Iberoamericana, Romero worked in Paris under Jean Nouvel and in Rotterdam under Rem Koolhaas.
In 1999, Fernando Romero served as the project leader responsible for the winning entry for Casa da Música in Porto, Portugal, located on a Unesco Heritage Site. In 2000, Fernando founded FR-EE / Fernando Romero Enterprise in Mexico followed by an office in New York City.
FR-EE’s projects translate contemporary moments of society and culture into built form, achieving ground-breaking results through extensive technological advancements, research, and the implementation of green infrastructures. Romero, associated with renowned British architect Norman Foster, has been selected to design the New International Airport for Mexico City, which will be the most sustainable airport in the world. Other projects in progress include Border City, a vision for a binational city on the border of the United States and Mexico; and the Latin American Art Museum (LAAM) in Miami.
